i've just been given a paper to review for Math Reviews, which was accepted into an Elsevier journal ..

A review written for MR benefits AMS, not Elsevier.
Math Reviews is meant to give brief accounts of all mathematical literature. That includes (as it should) trivial papers, hopelessly wrong papers, and Elsevier papers.
Form your own opinions. Don't let groupthink make your decisions for you.
